Professional referral is required – G.Ps, Social Services, Primary Care, Community Mental Health Teams, and Consultants etc. This is always done with the consent of the client.
After an initial referral, the service Co-ordinator, client and referring agent will meet to discuss the service in more detail giving the client the opportunity to talk about their hopes and expectations of the service.
If the client and Co-ordinator both agree befriending would be helpful, their name will be added to the waiting list until a suitable volunteer befriender becomes available. In addition to supporting the 1-1 partnership there are Pals events held bi- monthly on a Monday evening between 7pm and 9pm clients and volunteers are invited to come along to join in.
